FOOLKILLERS
Out of State Miracle (Remastered)
New From Paisley Pop
Following the demise of the Paisley Underground band TRUE WEST, vocalist Gavin Blair and
the brilliant guitarist Richard McGrath moved to the Pacific Northwest and formed the Foolkillers. Recording a number of singles and two albums with help from producer Conrad Uno (Young Fresh Fellows, Presidents of the United States). Named after a short story by Stephen Vincent Benet, the group took a year off while Richard McGrath toured with Stan Ridgeway. The band has been compared to Guadacanal Diary and Thirteenth Floor Elevators for its blending of country and roots music with psychedelic rock.

BOBBY SUTLIFF
AllSorts
As the title suggests, All Sorts is a grab bag of covers, demos, and outtakes from former Windbreakers guitarist Bobby Sutliff that plays like a companion piece to his earlier solo set of home recordings and session leftovers, Bitter Fruit. While Bitter Fruit was a fine showcase for Sutliff the songwriter, seven of the 12 tunes on All Sorts came from the pens of others (and two others appeared in different form on Bitter Fruit), so this set gets by on the strength of Sutliff's considerable strengths as a guitarist and a studio hand. Sutliff has long been one of the more gifted guitarists in the jangle pop underground, and his re-imagining of the Byrds' arrangement of "Wild Mountain Thyme" is nearly as heart-tugging in its beauty as the original, while his covers of Nick Drake's "Northern Sky" and the Tradewinds' "New York's a Lonely Town" are at once reverent and allow Sutliff's own musical personality to shine through. While All Sorts is a bit short of top-shelf originals from Sutliff, there are a couple of fine guitar pieces on board, "Kg14" and "Kirwan Green," and though the production is a bit rudimentary in spots, the album has a warm, open quality that's genuine and inviting. All Sorts is the sort of album that's best enjoyed by folks who are already loyal Bobby Sutliff fans (and since it was initially released in a limited edition of 250, it was apparently not intended to be a breakthrough release for him), but anyone with a soft spot for smart, well-crafted pop will doubtless enjoy it.

DOUG POWELL
Four Seasons
The son of a physicist and a flautist, Doug Powell grew up in Oklahoma and made his way to the limelight by
impressing Jules Shear with a demo tape. Shear then produced a demo tape that lead to the RCA signing
and recording of Ballad of the Tin Men. RCA dropped Powell, but Mercury eventually released the CD
(and sent Powell a-touring with Todd Rundgren). Rundgren and Powell forged a friendship, and
Rundgren produced the demos for the next album. Mercury dropped Powell, but Not
Lame released this material as Curioser and also another set of originals (More).
In 2001, Powell was an integral member of Swag, a group comprised of an all-star
line-up from other band members (Sixpence None the Richer, Wilco, Mavericks).
After a Japanese EP release Venus de Milo's Arms, Powell has his first release on Parasol.
Four Seasons, Doug Powell's first release for Paisley Pop is a collection of oddities including five songs written for the New cars (Todd Rungren lead singer), four songs
from the Japanese Only EP Venus De Milo's Arms, two songs from an aborted record, and "God Bless Us All", a Christmas
song written for Ringo.

MICHAEL MAZARELLA and the Fellows of Mortimer
Only Hope For Winter (DVD)
DVD project from Rooks-front man which debuts with six unreleased songs(only 3 of which will appear on the next Rooks album) and a total of 21 songs recorded over the last year in the studio with Ex-Records guitarist Huw Gower(and David Johansen, Graham Parker), Dave Rave(Teenage Head) and Greg Field(Ronnie Spector) helping out with their many talents. Expertly shot and tastefully edited, with the occasional cool effect to balance the intensity of the music assure that is far from any hack-job. It`s a gripping, intense viewing experience for any Rooks fan, start to finish. It represents and holds up the legacy of Mazzarella`s songs wonderfully, artfully and the reinterpretations of some songs in the Rooks catalog are truly extraordinary.
You will see and hear the musicians spontaneous and free while working from hastily recollected crib-notes - without rehearsals and often making it up as they went along. Simply revisiting old Rooks standards and repainting them by the numbers wasn`t good enough, wasn`t much of a challenge. Taking something old, borrowing and reworking made their playing come to life. Before now, Vows, Better Start Right Now and Trip had never been performed live at the piano. To this writing, Wish You Well and War have never been played in public! Six songs are new to all fans including three (Nightfall, Blue and Long Ago) from The Rooks` next album. And yes, the band`s power pop classic Reasons is also on the set-list, only now wrapped around a folksy Donovan meets Nick Drake slant courtesy of Huw Gower`s inspired arrangement. From the tongue-in-cheek disclaimer to the final falling notes of the cinematic title-track Only Hope For Winter, one thing is certain; You will be viewing a DVD unlike any other.
Filmed over numerous sessions and hours away from New York City, this was a true labor-of-love project that took over a year to reach its completion. Many takes involving lighting and camera arrangements, unrehearsed, receptive musicianship and lots of pizza and beer add up to bring you a very special show. With twenty-one selections in all, this DVD is a wonderful addition to every music fan`s collection.
