TIM LEE
Concrete Dog

The newest recorded effort from veteran, Knoxville, Tenn.-based songwriter is a mad squall of rock energy and gimlet-eyed optimism that could only be produced by a man who’s still young-at-heart enough to believe in possibilities, but wise enough to know that things rarely turn out the way you expect.

In short, it’s vintage Tim Lee.

The third solo outing since he made his return to recording with 2001’s primarily acoustic Under the House, finds Lee re-exploring some of the same fuzzed-up sonic ground he trod with 2004’s No Discretion.

Like its predecessor, Concrete Dog finds Lee again working with drummer/producer Don Coffey Jr., and bassist/wife Susan Bauer Lee.

And as with No Discretion, Lee again ventured into Coffey’s Knoxville-based Independent Recorders and Money Shot studios in Water Valley, Miss., to lay down tracks. And, on the recommendation of Steve Wynn, Lee also cut “Greyhound from Jackson” at Wave Lab in Tucson, Ariz., with producer Craig Schumacher manning the boards.

TIM LEE
No Discretion

No Discretion is more straightforward and rocking than Tim’s previous solo recordings. “This record is the product of spending the last couple of years doing a lot of gigging,” Lee explained. “Most of these songs had been played live before recording, and a lot of the recording was done live in the studio. That approach definitely changes the sound.”

The songs on No Discretion run the gamut from flat-out stompers such as “I Wanna Believe” and “Keep Me Down” to the wistful Americana of “New Hope,” the mid-tempo psychedelia of “The Rain Came Down” and “Felt Like...” to rocking power pop numbers like “Sure Bet” and “Speak Up Girl.”

Do you like rock n’ roll the way it’s supposed to be done? With loud guitars, great songs and strong performances? Do yourself a favor and check out Tim Lee’s No Discretion.

TIM LEE
Under the House

"Under the House, a charming, country rocker with more than a little of the shot-and-beer flair that makes Wilco so great.
Sometimes it sounds like Lee is just plain exhausted. For all of his asserting of that point, Under the House never wearies his listener's valuable ear. Somber dirges like "Without Action" characterize the album, creating a cohesive "anywhere is better than here" atmosphere. It is prevalent throughout, and with a Christian theme for good measure, the characters are dreaming, scheming, starry eyed wondering while looking off another exit down the road for the promise land.
There are some country rock cliches on Under The House - the driving south out of Memphis cliches - but for Lee in a button down gray work shirt, half opened and sweat drenched, there is an honest glow from the dashboard. Lee is one tired soul in search of salvation and his story is an interesting one. " Erick Mertz, Cosmik Debris

"On Under the House, Tim Lee is less concerned with evolving genres than with finding the right musical clothing in which to dress his ten songs. The arrangements -- mostly acoustic and electric guitars, bass, and drums -- are pretty simple, with occasional embellishments adding tasteful touches. Keyboards -- sounding a lot like a string section -- are added to portions of "Without Action," giving the song a classic rock feel. These arrangements also create a solid platform for Lee's rustic vocals. The production is likewise straightforward with the exception of the ambience added to Lee's voice, an effect that produces a slightly vaporous echo. All of these elements come together in the songs themselves. From the rollicking "Keep It True" (which sounds like a motto) to the quietly pensive "All That Much," Lee and his band deliver a tuneful batch of songs that holds the listener's attention. Under the House signals the return of a veteran songsmith and will be warmly embraced by both the alternative country and classic rock crowds." -- Ronnie J. Lankford, All Music Guide
