THE WINDBREAKERS
Time Machine (1982-2002)

...a superb 20-song compilation that skims the cream from the band's catalog and adds two newly recorded tunes as icing on the cake.
-Mark Deming, All Music Guide

"This is a collection of elegant, melodic, pop songs which should appeal to fans of Daniel Wylie, Cosmic Rough Riders, The Byrds, and indeed, REM."
--Barry Jones, Americana-UK.com

During the '80's, The Windbreakers (along with R.E.M., the dB's, and Let's Active) were one of the leading lights of the southern pop edge of the college music scene. The band released a handful of albums and EP's throughout the decade that found critical acclaim in Billboard and Rolling Stone. Following a reunion in 2001, the band has returned to record 2 new tracks with longtime producer Mitch Easter included on this release along with their classics like "New Red Shoes," "Run," and "That Stupid Idea." 20 tracks in all!

REVIEW

"A worthy and "about time too" collection from one of lesser known bands of the 80's Southern Pop movement. Although their contemporaries (more notably REM and the dB's) went on to sign with majors, the Windbreakers were left that land of critical acclaim. However, it has to be said that this also meant none of the compromise on quality that has plagued some of the mentioned contemporaries..."- AltCountrytab.com

"The songs act as glorious reminders of a time when southern 'college rock' was one of the few sub-genres in American music in which one could find the combination of intelligent, unpretentious lyrics and pop melodies. It’s a shame few were paying attention then. It would be a bigger shame if the Windbreakers persist as mere musical footnotes. They deserve better." --Bland Whitley, Tidal Wave Magazine
