RON ROGERS
La la land
Drawing on Texas blues, R&B, country and even a touch of swamp-rock, Ron Rogers conjures a gritty and evocative sound for La La Land.
The title track was chosen by infamous writer-producer Joe Eszterhas for the main titles opening song of his motion picture, "Burn, Hollywood, Burn."
Drawing on his deep Texas roots, Ron blends blues, R & B, swamp and rock 'n roll into his own brand of roadhouse story telling.
The LA Times gave Ron's CD an "A". "Rogers is a gifted songwriter who writes these slightly bluesy, slightly twangy down home tunes. "Give 'Em Guns" won't be playing in Charlton Heston's Walkman..."
WOULD SOUND GOOD ON A MIX TAPE WITH: Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Rosanne Cash, Carlene Carter, Kim Richey, Tim Lee.

THE
SAVING GRACES
Outside Guiding Lights
At last, The Saving Graces fulfill the promise of their "These
Stars Are For You" EP with a full-length album. Produced by
Jamie Hoover, Here we have sea of lulling harmonies and juicy guitar
and classic power pop hooks. There`s also groovy keyboards patches
and more tasty guitar crunch. And songs like the title track show
a moody yet translucent angle. Here, the simplest of tasty hooks
provides an interesting counter to the banjo-enhanced bridge. Produced
exquisitely by one of the finest producers in pop, Jamie Hoover(The
Spongetones). Signposts To Sound are both early 80`s and early 90`s
REM, The Connells, DM3, The Grapes Of Wrath and The Reivers. So,
yes, there`s a strong Southeastern jangle sound throughout, brainy
and shimmering unapologetic power pop with glorious harmonies.

SCI FI LOVESTORY
from the planet's surface
Once upon a time there was a singer songwriter named Bennett Hirschhorn who was tired of working long hours in the business world. So he bought a bunch of Wurlitzer electric pianos and flew to Knoxville where he recorded an album with ex-members of the bands Superdrag (Electra, ARRCO), the V-Roys (E-Squared), and the Windbreakers (DB).
The songs were observations Bennett made from the planets surface about love, chemistry, and wireless messaging with San Francisco as the backdrop.
Sci-Fi Lovestory has their way with a riff-driven parade of bouncy guitar driven pop...in the vein of Superdrag,The Replacements/Perfect, Son Volt, and Cracker. Boasting strong lyrics, accessible melodies, and often brutal honesty--lots of classic rock mixed in with swampy pop vibe

SPONGETONES
Number 9
25 years, and still going! A new album from the Spongetones. Number 9" is very much in the spirit and vein of "Beat And Born" and "Oh Yeah", which is to say they channel The Beatles with their own unique formula. Fans Meserypop, The Vinyl Kings, The Scruffs, Dave Clark Five, the first album by The Rooks and classic Marshsall Crenshaw, this is huge, huge winner of a grand slam of an album. "One of the most underrated power pop bands of the `80s, the Spongetones released several albums of effortlessly catchy guitar pop that captured the feel of `60s British Invasion pop with remarkable accuracy and innocent charm. While they never received much critical or commercial attention, their music has aged much better than most power pop of the era (late-70s early-80s) and among specialists, they`re highly revered not only for their studio prowess but also for their spirited live shows.
Here's what Pop Critic Alan Haber had to say about it:
A baker's dozen songs that make up this 40 minute slice of pop heaven.
All of the qualities that jump out at you within the first minute or so of any SpongeTones album are here; they're stronger than they've ever been, and that's really saying something. It's sort of the equivalent of being the top of the poppermost; this incredible vocal band (no less than the Shoes said that of these guys, and they're right), group of keen instrumentalists, and writers with the gift are absolutely working at the peak of their powers, which is exactly as it should be for the world to continue turning on its axis.
The album kicks off in grand style with the Mersey-flavored thumper "Anyway Town" and the beautiful mid-tempo ballad "Alayna," both co-written by Stoeckel-Walters. Listen to the drums on these songs; hell, listen to the drums on the entire record. Thorne really makes this record come alive with some really inspired, propulsive playing that is recorded in in-your-face verite by producer Hoover. This is the way drums should be recorded. Attention, all other bands and producers within earshot: This is the drum template to follow for your next record.
Hoover's lively "Bring It All Over Me," made for head bobbing, is a very clever and infectious creation that includes some sly nods to a particular sound that needs no introduction; I dare you to not sing along with the song first time out, which frankly applies to every song on this record, including the expansive, elegant "Metal Motherworld," a co-write by Stoeckel and fifth SpongeTone Greg James. Dig the very cool, innovative vocal arrangement, and one of the most beautiful, harmony-rich choruses in recent memory.
Stoeckel and James hit paydirt again with the driving "Cruel and Unusual Punishment," the tale of Ivan Whitehead, who "sleeps in a bed that his mother made." It's a great mix of pure pop with a touch of the new wave. "Future Perfect," a gorgeous waltz graced with beautiful harmonies and pleasing chord changes, is another winner from the same team. Similarly, Hoover and Stoeckel's "Nights in Deja Vu" is blessed with some extremely winning harmonies and chord (and rhythm) changes.
