RAY MASON
Missyouville
Chugging guitar work, touching ballads and you would swear Levon Helm was singing. "Missyouville" features appearances by Cheri Knight and the Scud Mountain Boys. Mason is a member of the Lonesome Brothers.
"A polished, uncompromising and honest set of rock 'n' roll. Great songs with a kaleidoscopic musical view ranging from the Beach Boys to Sun Ra and from gutteral, guitar-drenched rock to plaintive ballads and folk. Highly recommended!"
-Mick Skidmore, Relix
You don't play in bands for over three decades without learning something. You can hear the entire history of rock n' roll being recapitulated in Mason's work. His signature Silvertone guitar sound alone qualifies him as a musical original and visionary.
-Seth Rogovoy, Berkshires Week

RAY MASON
When The Clown's Work Is Over
The quirky eclectic pop/rock outfit Ray Mason Band has been together since 1982, led by guitarist Mason (whose retro Silvertone guitar has become a sort of trademark). Their sound has been compared to Wilco, The Bottle Rockets, and Marshall Crenshaw. "I Should Know the Way by Now" recall Young in his pastoral '70s heyday. Still, that's to say absolutely nothing of the Paul McCartney-ish piano pop of "I Own the Ending," the rollicking post-punk of "Up but So Loose," or the jumpy punkabilly of "Wrong Side of Real," none of which sound like they should even be coming from the same band. Mason's strong songwriting is the glue to the whole mix.
This is my personal favorite of Ray's many albums.

RAY MASON
Three Dollar Man
Three Dollar Man is a brief but captivating set of rootsy pop songs that have the soul and country influences of Don Dixon's solo work (the title track, a soulful and dramatic '70s-style ballad with piano and organ accents, sounds like Dixon channeling Todd Rundgren) along with a new emphasis on catchy hooks and spunky British Invasion-style melodies that give the album the sort of giddy retro twang of Marshall Crenshaw's early work.
Ray and his 1965 Silvertone have been tirelessly touring since 1982. The band features ex-Scud Mountain Boys Stephen Desaulniers on bass and Tom Shea on guitar with longtime drummer Frank Marsh. " Three Dollar Man" is their 7th cd release. Throughout the years they have opened shows for NRBQ, Marshall Crenshaw, Bill Morrissey, Graham Parker, Robbie Fulks, Amy Rigby, Steve Forbert, Link Wray, Los Straightjackets, Warren Zevon, Nils Lofgren, Joan Osborne, The Bottlerockets, Freedy Johnston, Chris Whitley, Joan Jett, Junior Brown, Ass Ponys, James McMurtry, Blue Mountain, Alejandro Escovedo, Yo La Tengo, They Might Be Giants and many more!! Ray has also recorded with Cheri Knight, Lloyd Cole, Cliff Eberhardt, J Mascis, Reed Foehl, Ware River Club and more. Break out the footrest, kick back and get on the receiving end of the Ray Mason Band and " Three Dollar Man".

RAY MASON
Castanets
1999 album from the ever prolific Ray. The fourth CD release from the Ray Mason Band captures the magic and intensity of their live sound in the studio thanks to stellar production by Jim Weeks and the band's relentless rock n' roll energy. Roots/rock/pop of the highest order. Chock-a-block with timeless, non-trendy new tunes. A definite kinship with NRBQ, The Band, John Hiatt, Jack Logan (to name a few).
Castanets is chock-a-block with outstanding songs we suggest you hear the title track, "Heaven in a Jar," "Breathing the Hopeful Rain," "True Love," and "Pop Dreams." But the whole album is an infectious delight. - Chris Morris, Billboard

RAY MASON
Old Souls Day
Old Souls Day, the band's third full-length CD from the Ray Mason Band, is an eclectic blend of roots/rock/pop/country and everything in between..
Old Souls Day is a 40-minute romp through the history of pop music. It bounces from genre and styles with a breezy effortlessness few have been able to achieve. Mason does more than write pop songs he writes what only can be termed modern American music. - John O'Neill, Worcester Phoenix
